Golf Update: May 22

Good afternoon Ravenna Club Members,

The Club will keep operating with the current service levels for the month of June. We will continue with individual riders in golf carts unless the two people reside in the same household. We ask the Members and guests to load their clubs on the designated tee time cart before the round and unload their golf clubs back into their automobile after the round. Please make sure you remove all your personal items from golf carts and dispose of any trash you have accumulated in the golf cart after the round.

The Golf shop will be open for retail and golfer check-in and the maximum number of customers that can be in the golf shop will be a maximum of two people. To keep the traffic to a minimum in the golf shop the preference would be for all guests’ charges to the members accounts. We will continue with this service model to the membership until we have clear understanding of the State of Colorado’s plan and will modify operations accordingly.

On the Golf course, we ask that everyone to leave the flagstick in the cup when putting. (This really helps with pace of play). We encourage the membership to bring out their own sanitary wipes and use to clean your hands when they reach into the hole to get their ball out or after raking the bunker.

The Club will be recognizing hole in ones made by a member for the HOLE IN ONE CLUB. We have had three hole in ones for the Hole in Club: Bonnie MacDonald, Charlie George, and Monty Reagan. Once we get clearance from the State of Colorado to Open the Bar & Restaurant, we will coordinate three different dates and communicate to the membership when you can come out celebrate. I will let you know the time when the drinks will be served on the hole in one insurance. Members can come up and enjoy one drink and the drinks will be served until the Hole In One Club Insurance runs out.

We appreciate the generosity of the members during these hard times. Thank you to Eric “Hack” Haberland who made a generous donation to the Golf and F&B.

Golf Carts
There is no doubt golf carts are a major component of the golf at Ravenna. Since the COVID-19 and the requirement of single riders on golf carts the golf course is starting to show a detrimental side to golf cart traffic, predominantly increased turf wear and soil compaction. You can see these traffic patterns that are a problem.

Golf Cart Recommendations Golf Path

In addition, our Members and guests have gotten more liberal in where they drive carts. I have observed instances where golfers will drive a golf cart where they typically would not venture with a four-wheel drive vehicle.

Turf damage

Golfers rarely realize or understand the amount of wear and damage that can be caused by golf cart traffic. This is especially true early in the season when the grass greens up and golfers immediately expect the density and quality of the surface to improve. This cannot happen until weather warms to the point that active grass growth fully resumes.

If all carts would stay on the path at greens and tees, this alone would reduce wear and damage that additional cart traffic imposes. Drivers are encouraged to keep all four tires on the path at all times near greens & tees and seek alternate routes that are less traveled. Read the USGA article, "Five things every Member should know about golf carts but won’t take the time to read."

It is the responsibility of golfers to take care of golf courses and leave the turf in as good condition as they find it. Ball mark repair, divot replacement, and judicious golf cart usage are all examples of golfer etiquette that go a long way in producing and sustaining quality turf and playing conditions throughout the golfing season. Let’s all be sure to do our part!

June & July Golf Hours of Operation
Monday’s Golf Course & Clubhouse Closed - The Club has experienced an unprecedented record number of rounds so far in 2020. The Golf Course has held up incredibly well but needs a rest. Since the Club is requiring individual riders in the golf carts the golf cart traffic patterns have really taken a toll on the golf course as written above. In the Month of June and July the golf course, & practice facilities will be closed on Mondays to the membership. This includes those Members who live in the community and have their own golf carts.

The Club at Ravenna Golf Guidelines during COVID 19

1. When you come out to the club we ask everyone to please practice the social distancing with your fellow members, guests and staff that is recommended by the John Hopkins University.

2. If you feel sick, under the weather, or just a little off please stay home. If Management feels you are putting others at risk you will be denied access and asked to leave.

3. The Club has 54 golf carts in the fleet, The club recommends practicing social distancing riding alone in the golf cart and we will do our best to accommodate. With the limited number of golf carts, we will not be able to leave golf carts out on the 9th hole for walkers.

We will update the home page on Foretees daily of any changes or updates for golf. We are very appreciative of all the support we have received from the Membership. More communication will follow should conditions change.

Sincerely,
