Golf Update: May 6

Hello Ravenna Club Members,

The state of Colorado will begin phasing relaxed restrictions for business. The Club will still operate with minimal services available for the rest of the month of May. We are asking the Members and Guests to load their clubs on the designated tee time cart before the round and unload their golf clubs back into their vehicle after the round. Please make sure you remove all your personal items from golf carts and dispose of any trash you have accumulated in the golf cart after the round. Until the state regulatory agencies allow us to open retail, the golf shop will continue with minimal operations and my assistants will be working outside. We will continue with this service model to the Membership until we have clear understanding of the State’s plan and Ravenna will modify operations accordingly.

We have started own phasing approach in golf operations. We have put two sand bottles back on the Ravenna fleet golf carts and placed the bag stand back on the driving range. This Friday, we will be taking out the PVC out of the holes and putting the rakes out around the bunkers. We ask that everyone to leave the flagstick in the cup when putting. We are all in this together. We encourage the Membership to bring out their own sanitary wipes and use to clean your hands when they reach into the hole to get their ball out or after raking the bunker.

The Club will begin recognizing hole in ones made by a member for the HOLE IN ONE CLUB. If a Member were to make a hole in one, the Club will bill the hole in one insurance to the membership and when the Club opens for operations we will publish the day and time when the drinks will be purchased by the Member.

We appreciate the generosity of the members during these hard times. Thank you to Jim and Tammy Martin who made a generous donation to the Golf and F&B.

The term “getting back to normal” has been frequently used and it is time for the Membership to get back to normal on a few areas:

Let get back to normal with proper golf attire
Please be aware that appropriate dress is required at all times on the golf course and practice areas.

Men/Boys
All men and boys are required to wear collared shirts or mock turtlenecks (short or long sleeved), and golf slacks or appropriate shorts. Shirts must be tucked inside slacks or shorts. Denim fabric is not permitted on the course or practice areas. Cargo or camouflage shorts/pants are not permitted. Golf hats and visors are to be worn with the bill forward at all times. Please remove hats before entering the clubhouse.

Women/Girls
Ladies’ shorts, golf skirts or skorts are to be of the appropriate length. Short-shorts, baggy or cargo shorts or denim fabric is not permitted. Tube tops, halter tops, spaghetti strap tops or spandex clothing are not allowed. Golf hats and visors are to be worn with the bill forward at all times.

THE MEMBER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR GUESTS ATTIRE.

Let get back to normal with golf carts
Golf carts must remain on cart paths, without exception, on Par 3 holes.

Keep the golf carts out of the native grass areas on the golf course.

Let get back to normal with handicap flags for golf carts
Golf carts must remain on cart path on Par 3 holes, with two Exceptions:
1. Hole #6 you can drive on the fairway and park 30 feet from the green and then turn around and exit back on cart path
2. Hole #16 you can drive down mower path behind the green and park 30 feet from green

Please use cart paths where provided near tees and greens. Under no circumstances should a golf cart be driven within thirty feet of a green, tee or bunker.
Exception **If you are on a cart path that is within 30 feet of the green tee or bunker.

No carts within 30 feet of a green
This is a perfect example of what not to do!

Bunkers
I would like to talk briefly about our bunker etiquette that we use Ravenna. Even though a bunker is considered a hazard on the course, we can all do our part to ensure that everyone gets a consistent lie from bunker to bunker.

Start by entering the bunker from a flat area on the low side of the bunker, grabbing a rake while entering. This will reduce any large depressions that can occur from stepping in from a high face.

How to enter a bunker

Stepping in on a steep slope (below) can create an inconsistent lie in the bunker that can lead to plugged golf balls.

How not to enter a bunker

After you have taken your stroke (and hopefully are out of the bunker) smooth the club mark and footprints using the rake, leaving minimal depressions. Rake yourself out of the bunker the same way that you entered the bunker (below).

Raking Bunkers

After the bunker has been raked, please leave the rake with the head inside the bunker and the handle outside the lip. This ensures that the grounds crew can maintain their efficient mow schedule, and that the rake will not prevent a ball from rolling into the bunker.

The Club at Ravenna Golf Guidelines during COVID-19:

1. When you come out to the club we ask everyone to please practice the social distancing with your fellow members, guests and staff that is recommended by the John Hopkins University.

2. If you feel sick, under the weather, or just a little off please stay home. If management feels you are putting others at risk you will be denied access and asked to leave.

3. The Club has 54 golf carts in the fleet, The Club recommends practicing social distancing riding alone in the golf cart and we will do our best to accommodate. With the limited number of golf carts, we will not be able to leave golf carts out on the 9th hole for walkers.

We will update the home page on Foretees daily of any changes or updates for golf. We are very appreciative of all the support we have received from the Membership. More communication will follow should conditions change.

Sincerely,

George Kahrhoff
